Preparing For Your Camping Get-away Within Budget

by Rob Carlton

Fortunately, purchasing supplies for your camping trip should not be too hard on your budget. With some research beforehand, you can easily stay within your budget. The best way to find a good deal is to do some comparisons before you go to get some ideas of price ranges on certain items and any deals available.

It might be best to start with the more basic camping supplies and add the extras later. Not only will this limit your initial spending, but you will also have a better idea of the special camping items you may want after you are more familiar with camping and things you find you need during the trip.

Traveling light on your camping get-away is also a good idea for purposes of packing and unpacking. The fewer items you bring, the fewer items you need to unpack once you reach the campsite and pack up later. You will also have less to clean up and carry around, something you will appreciate more once you are at the campgrounds.

Obviously, if you are camping with a trailer you will have more options than someone tent camping, but you should still aim for practical when it comes to purchasing and packing supplies. If you are backpacking, it is not just recommended that you carry as less as possible but essential as you will not want a heavy load to carry. Do not go overboard with the minimization, though, as you also do not want to forget important items you may need.

A first aid kit is one of the essential items you definitely want to make room for when packing. You should have a variety of bandages, scissors, tweezers, gauze, a needle, thread, antibacterial lotion or cream, anti-itch cream and tensor bandages. Find a first aid kit that is convenient, easy to pack yet contains all of the essential items you may need.

When packing, you should also consider using aluminum or plastic items as much as possible. They are lighter, easier to pack and will not break while traveling and at the campsite. It is also a good idea to bring disposable plates and cups rather than dishes that need cleaned, which will not only add to the weight of your supplies but also take time to clean when you could be enjoying yourself by the campfire. Flashlights, a radio, cell phone and spare batteries are some other essential items you should pack.

Purchasing camping supplies during the off-season, particularly during an “off-season sale” can save you even more money. Garage sales, rummage sales and even online stores are also great places to look for camping supplies on a budget.

Ultimately, you should be able to purchase your basic camping supplies without spending a fortune. Be sure to do some comparison shopping or research beforehand, taking advantage of off-season sales and checking out any used essential items.
